Hints & Tips

Quick start
When at the countdown, when the view is at the back of your car, hold X. Then, tap Square while holding X and smoke should then start coming out of your tires. Keep holding X. A split second before "GO!" appears, release X and instantly press it again. This should give you a little boost.

Hold Brake, then press Gas to have your tires to peel out. When "One" appears at the top of the screen, release Gas and right away press it again when "Go!" appears. If done properly, you will get a boost that will almost always put you in front of the other vehicles.

Easy boost
You can receive a boost easier by doing drifts. However press Square, drift, then keep tapping Square for a greater chance of not crashing.

Avoid loss of perfect record
When trying to achieve all gold medals in championship mode, if you fail to win one of the races, reset the PlayStation2 before it auto-saves. You can then choose to continue the championship and restart at the race you didn't to win, without having to replay (and win) all the races before.

Powerful boosts in crash zones
This trick will work in one player and two player modes. When you are doing the crash zones, at the start right away hold R1 for a boost. After a few seconds, press it once again. This should give you a bit more boost, which results in a faster speed and better crashes. Repeat this as many times as you like.

At the start of any race, pursuit or crash session, before it race starts, at the countdown, hold Gas (X), then hold Brake (Square) for roughly half a second. Half a second before the counter reaches zero, release Gas and swiftly press it again. You will start with a boost.

In the countdown, hold X then press Square and smoke will start to appear. Just before it says "Go!", release Square and X, then swiftly press X. You will boost ahead and get an advantage.
