Play as Super Sonic
Obtain all seven Chaos Emeralds from the first four courses. To obtain a Chaos Emerald, you must collect it and place first place in that race. Then press [Down] while highlighting Sonic at the character selection screen.

Play as Mecha Knuckles
Obtain all five coins in Radioactive Factory, and place first, second, or third place. Then, beat Mecha Knuckles in a race.

Play as Mecha Robotnik
Obtain all five coins in Regal Ruins and place first, second, or third place. Then, beat Mecha Robitnik in a race.

Radiant Emerald course
Place first on each normal course.

Play as Dr. Robotnik
Come in first place in the in the Radiant Emerald course. Or, finish every level.

Play as Puppet Tails
Obtain all five coins in Radical City and place first, second, or third place. Then, beat Puppet Tails in a race.

Play as robot form character
Obtain the five Sonic coins in these levels:

Mecha Sonic: Resort Island
Puppet Tails: Radical City
Mecha Knuckles: Reactive Factory
Mecha Robotnik: Any level with Robotnik

Course close-up
Press Up and Down to zoom in and out when you are at the course selection screen.

Play as Mecha Sonic
Obtain all five coins on Resort Island and place first, second or third place. Then, beat Mecha Sonic in a race.

Play as same character
First select multi-player mode, then highlight a character, hold [Change View] and press [Action].

View demo
Press [Action] + [Accelerate] to see the demo, or bypass the Sega and "Traveler's Tales" screens.

Soundtrack
Place the game disc in an audio CD player and play tracks two or higher to hear twenty tracks of music.

Control title screen logo
Press the direction controls when you are at the title screen to rotate the "R". Press [Change View] to change the color.

Bypass credits
Hold [Action] + [Accelerate] + [Change View] and press [Start].

Hints & Tips

Flying as Tails
When Tails gets to full speed, press [Space]. Then when he is in mid-air, press [Space] again. He will start to fly. This can help with getting over water and other hard objects.

Radical City shortcut
First select any Sonic form (Sonic, Super Sonic, Mecha Sonic) and proceed to Radical City. When you get down to the dip in the track, turn left and keep on going. Now pass the 20 rings door and you should see a line of rings. Keep going and jump past the barrier in the bend of the road on your left. Then, go left again. If you look at the map, you should see that you skipped a bunch of the level.

Just use Knuckles at the start. At the dip, jump and float. Then go down the stream until coming to a ledge and a road below. Go to the road and turn left to locate the pinball area. Float above that at the drop. Jump up the gamble bit and take the boost. It is possible to obtain a time of 32:00 seconds by doing this trick.

Reactive Factory shortcut
Select any character. Turn right when you are catapulted near the gap in the road. You should skip roughly five seconds.

Special characters used against you
Note: This will work when not racing to access the character. If you play as any special unlocked character other than Robotnik, all other special characters you have will be used against you.. For example, If playing against Tails/Knuckles/Sonic as Super Sonic, Puppet Tails/Mecha Knuckles/Mecha Sonic will be your foe.

Purple Chaos Emerald without opening the gate
With Sonic this requires double jump, Mecha Sonic, and maybe Mecha Knux, go to a spot where you would normally receive the Purple Chaos Emerald. Do not open the door. Instead, go by it. When you get to the 90 degree right turn, make a 90 degree left turn instead. You will see a road. Jump up there and you will see the Purple Chaos Emerald.

Sonic R wallpaper
When you have the game disc in the CD-ROM drive, open that drive in My Computer to locate wallpaper from the game under the name "snip".

Slow characters down
Go to the options menu and select "Controls". Set them to whatever you like, then when you get down to "Drift", set X for left and V for right. Then when you want to slow a character down, Amy will work well, go to their side and drift into them. It will slow them down a lot. They will be left in the back to accelerate again while you are hurrying past him/her.

Super Sonic's theme
In order to hear Super Sonic's theme, unlock him, then access the other secret characters and play the Radiant Emerald Course. Then during the race you will hear Super Sonic's theme. This is the last and final race and will then be followed by the credits.

Regal Ruin shortcut
First select any character. Then turn right when you see the hill and catapults. Then, turn left when possible. You should see an archway. Pass through the archway and turn left at the fork. Then, go up the steep hill and go on. You should reach the end soon. By doing this, it is possible to finish a lap in 25 seconds. Repeat this shortcut.

Ruins: Coin locations

The first coin is in front of the fifty ring door at the left. Note: Also behind this door is a Chaos Emerald.

After the bridge, take a left and jump on the far spring to obtain the next coin.

Stay on the main path and go uphill to locate the coin in front of a pit.

The next coin is on the top of a hill near the beginning of the stage (to the right).

To receive the last coin, turn right before the bridge and go into the water. Go right and forward and you will find a secret tunnel. Go up the hill inside then turn left to find the last coin.

Resort Island: Coin locations

The first coin is on top of the rock ledge near the beginning of the stage.

The next coin is under the tunnel after the rock ledge (turn left after you get the first coin).

Collect twenty rings and open the door to locate the next coin (to the left of the bridge after the second coin).

On the path after the speed boost, go straight no turning right. The coin is at the top of the hill.

The final coin is on an island near the tight turn between two bridges (go straight instead of right).
